Buckingham Nicks, the Best Secret Debut Album
It’s an important part of their musical history
Before Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were in Fleetwood Mac, they were a duo and recorded Buckingham Nicks.
The two met in high school but didn’t get together musically or romantically until a couple of years later. They lived in San Jose, while Stevie took classes at San Jose State and worked.
Lindsey focused on mastering his guitar playing rather than taking a 9 to 5 job. This meant Stevie had to work three jobs to make ends meet, and she was okay with that arrangement.
They collaborated on songs and made demos whenever they got the chance.
Eventually, their music sparked some interest, and they got a record deal with Polydor Records.
Buckingham Nicks was released in 1973 but wasn’t promoted. A song or two played on college radio stations, and they did a limited tour, playing coffee houses and small clubs, but nothing major happened.
The album wasn’t a hit, and the record company dropped Stevie and Lindsey.
